Anna Berlin’s paintings are of a grayscale world, where documentation, legal papers, and everyday ephemera become part of her language of storytelling. The works use the monotone language of the bureaucratic documents, such as tax forms, proofs of identity, and lists. Names of people and places blur together – Wasser, Berlin, New York, New Jersey – as the generations travel back and forth over water and over land.
Anna Berlin is a painter living and working in Berlin, Germany. She received her BA from Mount Holyoke College (2015) and her MFA from Boston University (2020).
Anna was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for painting (Berlin, Germany, 2021-2022). She has been a resident at Visual Arts at Chautauqua (Chautauqua, NY, 2017) and the Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT, 2015). Recent exhibitions include: Olympia (New York, NY, 2023); Universität der Künste (Berlin, Germany, 2021); SPRING/BREAK (New York, NY, 2020); Vacation Gallery (New York, NY, 2019); and The Painting Center (New York, NY, 2019).
